Event Report: Compliance Made Simple – What Every Business Needs to Know

Yesterday, COMPLIANCE CONNECT hosted its first in-person hot topic event at Benton Hall Golf & Country Club. The session, Compliance Made Simple: What Every Business Needs to Know, brought together professionals from across Essex for an engaging and practical discussion on key compliance challenges facing organisations today.

We welcomed attendees including representatives from charities, construction firms, manufacturers, and professional services, reflecting the wide-ranging impact that compliance has on every sector.

​

The evening opened with an overview of the core building blocks of compliance – covering areas such as:

  • Health & Safety basics (including DSE, risk assessments, and near-miss reporting)

  • Environmental responsibilities (such as upcoming requirements around PFAS and sustainability reporting)

  • Data protection and privacy – a reminder of GDPR essentials and how small oversights can lead to big fines

  • Practical compliance culture tips – how to keep staff engaged without drowning in paperwork

The event wasn’t just about listening — attendees had the chance to share their own challenges and swap practical ideas that work in their workplaces. Discussions ranged from how charities manage compliance with limited budgets, to the way manufacturers are approaching environmental standards, to construction companies sharing lessons on site safety and audits.

Everyone left with a certificate of attendance and, more importantly, fresh ideas and practical takeaways to bring back to their organisations.

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with several attendees commenting on the relaxed, approachable format.

This event was the first of many. COMPLIANCE CONNECT will continue to run monthly hot-topic awareness sessions, alongside online “Breakfast Briefings” and networking socials, designed to keep compliance simple, practical, and accessible.​
